The Co-Wives
A Heartfelt Story of Love, Devotion, and Human Resilience
Set against the backdrop of rural North India before and after Partition, The Co-Wives tells the remarkable story of Lajwanti, lovingly known as Lajjo.
Born into a lower middle-class family, Lajjo’s life was shaped by faith, loyalty, hardship, and extraordinary courage.
Deeply devoted to her husband Raamkishore, whom she affectionately referred to as “My Almighty,” her life takes unexpected turns that challenge traditional notions of marriage, family, and duty.
As circumstances unfold, Lajjo becomes part of an unconventional family arrangement that could have been marked by rivalry and conflict. Instead, it blossoms into one of the most touching relationships at the heart of this story—a profound bond between two women united by compassion, respect, and shared purpose.
Rich in emotion and historical context, The Co-Wives offers readers a rare glimpse into family dynamics, cultural traditions, and enduring human values from a bygone era.
